Winter Adventures

These durable, spiral bound 21.5 x 28 cm (8.5 x 11 in) Mapbooks show you countless cross-country ski, snowshoe and fat bike trails, downhill ski areas, backcountry ski routes, backcountry huts and cabins, ice fishing lakes, snowmobile trails and more. Industry-leading topographic relief and shading ensures that you know exactly what to expect from the terrain in your winter adventure area, with clearly marked changes in elevation and natural features such as wetlands and glaciers. We also show you more logging roads, resource roads and deactivated roads than any other maps, many of which double as winter trails for cross-country skiers, snowshoers and sledders.

Many of the winter adventure areas shown on our maps are supplemented with detailed written descriptions compiled by our team of outdoor writers and researchers. These descriptions include information on access and directions, trail distance and elevation gain, permitted activities, operating season, highlights, contact information and more. We also include tips on how to have a safe and successful winter adventure.

Paulson Cross-Country Ski Trails (Map 2/B4)
With three access points on Highway 3B and a 45 km (28 mi) trail system to explore, there is plenty of variety for skiers of all abilities here. Set over 1,300 metres (4,225 ft) in elevation, snow comes early (late November) and lasts into April here. The Castlegar Nordic Ski Club maintains a few day-use shelters and provides some track setting, notably around the main access point at Mud Lake. Easy trails track southwest to the Ben Shaw Cabin, while advanced skiers can explore the various routes along the alpine ridges leading to the Larch or Glenmerry Cabins. Snowshoers are welcome but asked to stay off groomed routes. There is a fee to help maintain the system. See castlegarnordic.ca for more information.
